Just What U Need: UPCYLCING COFFEE GRAINS FOR BETTER SKIN CARE

I made my annual trek to the The Foire de Paris or the ‘Paris Fair’ a few weeks ago - an event that I truly love attending, despite the crowds, as I always find interesting things. Either a household gadget (I am a gadget lover) to some new beauty breakthrough (face cream made with the snail slime) I am never disappointed.

But what is the Foire de Paris really? Created some 112 years ago (interrupted some years by major events, like two world wars), the Foire de Paris is annual event that drew over half a million people this year. It’s an event to bargain hunt, discover innovations, buy jewelry, beauty and food products, wine and spirits and enjoy musical groups.

After buying some organic Aloe Vera, nothing new here, I was drawn to a stand that had a unique presentation using coffee grains. At first I thought they were selling coffee, and to my surprise I discovered a beauty brand called JUST WHAT U NEED, naturally naked cosmetics. The brand upcycles vegetative waste, such as used coffee grinds, wood of dead coconut trees to extract oils that have excellent cosmetic benefits. This amazing concept was developed by talented chemist Jasmina Legos who is from Guadeloupe, part of France. I was intrigued!

Consistent with its eco and sustainable positioning, the brand consists of only a few products to avoid and reduce excess packaging. That’s why JWUN products are multipurpose: Shower Essential 5 in 1 bar soap for face, body and hair, Black Gold Gel oil to hydrate skin and hair, and Caribbean Water toner, make up remover and hair detangler.

I tested and ended up buying the Black Gold gel oil. I was seduced by it because I could use it in its oil form, or transform it into a moisturizing cream by adding a bit of water. Made with their unique natural ingredient, coffee grinds oil extract, the product promises to deeply nourish and soften dry skin. So I had to try it and I am not disappointed. I was however concerned about my skin or hair smelling like coffee, but this wasn’t the case. The coffee odor is barely noticeable. For the moment, I’ve only used the product on my skin. The gel absorbs quickly without my skin feeling or looking greasy or oily.
