How did TELETIES get its start?
Growing up playing soccer, Lindsay found herself constantly on the sidelines with her head upside down, frantically trying to put her hair tie back in. Then as a busy mom on the go, she found her hair ties continuing to slip out of her hair. Tired of hair ties performing poorly and not being aesthetically pleasing, she decided to do something about it. She wanted to make hair ties that were not only functional, but fashionable and less damaging to hair. And that’s exactly what she did!
Lindsay conceptualized designs, researched materials, and tested prototype after prototype until she created what she believes is the perfect hair tie. A hair tie that has all the features, benefits, and improvements she envisioned. Above all, one she was proud to wear. And thus, TELETIES were born. Her solo mission soon turned into a group endeavor as she recruited her friends to help bring her vision to life. Operating initially out of her living room and garage, word of this revolutionary new hair tie got out and TELETIES took off. Needing more help and space, TELETIES moved into its current space where everything is done: new collection development, quality control, and shipping and handling.
What are TELETIES made from?
TELETIES are made with a Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) material. Best of all they are BPA and phthalate free!
Is this good for all types of hair, including thick hair?
Yes! TELETIES work well in all types of hair: straight, curly, wavy, thin, thick you name it!
How about the grip? Do TELETIES have a strong grip and will it hurt or pull the hair in any way?
TELETIES are the strong-grip, no-rip hair ties that give back. They have a super strong grip and will keep your hair in place no matter what you are doing. The material is strong, yet soft so it won’t pull your hair in the process.
How many sizes do they come in?
There are three different sizes: tiny, small and large.
How do you know what size is for your hair?
The tinytele is best for kids or if you have very thin hair. They’re also great for the end of a braid or for half up hairstyles. The small size is best for thin to medium thick hair. The large is best for medium to super thick hair. All three sizes work well in all types of hair. Check out our is a size quiz on the website if you aren’t sure which size to get.
Do they leave creases in the hair?
With their unique spiral design, TELETIES leave less of a crease compared to traditional hair ties.
Will TELETIES lose their shape?
Our flexible TELETIES are designed to be versatile, stretching over your wrist, ponytails and hair buns. Over time, you might see a slight loss of elasticity, which is a small side effect of our “no-rip” material. But no worries, TELETIES are completely shrinkable if they do ever stretch out. Simply place them in a bowl filled with warm water. The heat will cause the material in your TELETIES to shrink back to its original size. Please note if your TELETIES is twisted, it will not go back to shape if you place it in water. Please ensure it is the correct shape before placing it in water.
How long is the life of a TELETIE?
We pride ourselves on quality and delivering the best hair tie possible. Which is why we make TELETIES with strong, flexible material designed to last. FORCE is a non-profit organization that aims toward improving the lives of people and families affected by hereditary breast, ovarian and related cancers. Millions of people possess a genetic mutation that increases their risk for these cancers and are completely unaware. Each child of a parent with a mutation has a 50% chance of inheriting this mutation. Early detection is key and can help those affected live longer, healthier lives.
Our TELETIES founder, Lindsay, understands firsthand how important non-profit organizations like FORCE can be in providing resources and early detection. She was tested at a young age because her father carried the BRCA1 mutation and thankfully tested negative. Having never met her grandmother who passed away from breast cancer at the age of 40, Lindsay promised herself that she would do her part to educate others and bring awareness to the BRCA1 mutation. Partnering with such an impactful organization is important to Lindsay and gives proof to the TELETIES mission of upholding a resilient product while giving back to our community.
What advice would you give someone who wants to start their own business?
Trust your gut and always remember, forward motion daily.
