How did Province Apothecary get its start?
After struggling with allergies and eczema all her life, Julie Clark began crafting natural, organic beauty products out of her kitchen. Despite her busy schedule as a costume designer and stylist, Julie found herself drawn to holistic skincare, using her time off to experiment with oils, waxes and herbs- all in pursuit of the perfect skin care regime. What inspired you create a skincare line with essential oils?
Our products are made from the highest quality certified organic ingredients and are always free from: petroleum, parabens, synthetic fragrances and ingredients, endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, dyes, alcohol, solvents, pesticides, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), palm oil or derivatives, cosmetic grade ingredients and toxins of any kind. How important are essential oils to beauty and wellness?
Essential oils have SO many benefits & healing properties and why we use them in our products. In our Moisturizing Oil Cleanser + Makeup Remover we’ve combined the following:
Raspberry Oil stimulates cell turnover, rejuvenating skin. Bergamot Oil clears congestion. Frankincense tones the skin. Lavender heals blemishes and works as a restorative. Our cleanser helps your skin stay nourished, balanced, and healthy.
What’s the difference between an oil-based cleaner and a traditional cleanser?
Oil cleansing is an ancient technique used to effectively wash the skin. We prefer oil cleansing because it won’t dry out your skin like soap does, and it re-balances your skins oil production. Soap affects the natural PH of your skin, which is normally acidic, and strips the skin of its natural oils. This makes the skin work harder to re-balance itself, causing it to produce more sebum (oil) to moisturize and bring its PH level up. This will lead to more oily and congested skin.
Oil cleansing will create harmony with the skin and is great for all skin types. If you are naturally oily, don't be afraid! Oil cleansing will re-balance your skin so that there is no over production of sebum throughout the day. Alternatively, if you have dry skin, it will allow further production of oil to occur. Dry skin is lacking oil - dehydrated skin is lacking water.
We recommend using a damp wash cloth, towel or cotton pads to remove your oil cleanser. This ensures all of the oil is gently removed from your skin. If oil is left behind after cleansing, you will not feel clean and clarified. Remove all of your oil cleanser from the skin before applying remaining skincare products. Oil cleansing can be done once or twice a day - preferably in the evening.

Sunflower Seed Oil*, Jojoba oil*, Avocado oil*, Evening Primrose oil*, Raspberry Seed oil*, GMO-free Vitamin E, Rosemary leaf extract, and therapeutic essential oils of Bergamot, Lavender*, Frankincense* and Petitgrain. *Certified organic ingredient.
Our Bergamot is Bergamotene-free (not photo-toxic).

Avocado Oil | A rich, viscous carrier oil that deeply penetrates the skin to fight dryness, dullness and dehydration.
Raspberry Seed Oil | Very high in linoleic acid, a fatty acid found to be lacking in the sebum of acneic skin, the oil also works to smooth and replenish the skin's moisture barrier.
