How did Urban Skin Rx get its start?
Soon after beginning her career as an aesthetician and laser technician, Rachel Roff realized she was unable to perform treatments on family and friends with skin of color. Shocked and frustrated by the lack of education and services available for skin concerns and conditions common with deeper skin tones, Rachel made it her life’s mission to make the skincare industry more inclusive. Rachel’s unrelenting passion drove her to start Urban Skin Solutions Medspa and Laser Center in 2006, in Charlotte, NC. After great success with her medspa, Rachel launched Urban Skin Rx®, a line of clinical skincare products for diverse skin tones, in 2010.

Rachel is often inspired to create new products by our customers! She looks at feedback on our social handles and website to see what our clients like/dislike and what they want to see us create. She’s also inspired by other brands, and many of her fellow female beauty founders.

What inspired the Even Tone Cleansing Bar?
The entire line was inspired by Rachel’s medspa! The Even Tone Cleansing Bar was one of the first products Rachel formulated and launched. Once Rachel’s medspa took off, people from all over the country were asking her to please start a medspa in their city. Not wanting to franchise, Rachel realized the next best thing would be to create an effective skincare line that could ship nationwide.
What is the best way to use the Even Tone Cleansing Bar?
Moisten enclosed sponge with warm water and rub across cleansing bar to create a creamy lather. Gently massage onto face using small circular motions, allowing the lather to remain on the face for one to two minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and gently pat skin dry. Rinse sponge and wring out excess water. Do not put back inside the jar. Allow the sponge to fully dry on top of the lid of the jar. Eye sensitivity can occur; avoid directly cleansing the eye area. Can be used to cleanse the skin both morning and night. Can also be used as a mask and left on for up to 3 minutes before rinsing off.
What suggestions do you have to keep the sponge clean?
Make sure to allow the sponge to dry on top of the case, not in the jar. They are also machine washable, so you can throw them in with your clothes as long as you are using a fragrance-free laundry soap.
What are the main ingredients in the Even Tone Cleansing Bar?
AZELAIC ACID
Fades the look of dark marks and improves the appearance of irritated skin.
KOJIC ACID
Exfoliates dead skin cells and improves the appearance of hyperpigmentation.
LICORICE ROOT EXTRACT
Brightens, promotes even skin tone and has skin-soothing properties.
NIACINAMIDE
A form of Vitamin B3. Helps boost hydration and visibly improve fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, texture and redness.
What can people expect after using the Even Tone Cleansing Bar?
Your skin will feel soothed and smell fresh immediately. Over time, you can expect the appearance of your dark marks to improve, as well as a brighter complexion.
How long will it take to see results after using this cleansing bar?
Results vary person to person, but we also say to give it 4-6 weeks to see ultimate results.
Can the Even Tone Cleansing Bar be used with other cleansers?
The bar can be used with a gentle pre-cleanse step, or rotate the bar with another cleanser, ie use the bar in the evening, and a gentler cleanser in the morning.
Is the Even Tone Cleansing Bar just for the face?
No, you can use the Even Tone Cleansing Bar for the body as well.
What other products can you suggest to compliment the Even Tone Cleansing Bar?
The Super Glow Serum, Retinol Rapid Repair and Complexion Protection Moisturizer are all great to pair with the bar to help even out the skin tone.
