When did the brand get its start?
When Founder and Dermatologist, David Lortscher, was practicing in New Mexico, he realized that a lot of his patients were driving several hours to see him. There were times when patients called his office saying their prescription was going to cost more than $200 and they were leaving the pharmacy without it. He thought, quality acne care shouldn’t be so inaccessible and unaffordable and knew there had to be a better way. That’s when Curology was born.
What inspired your customized skincare system?
Skincare isn’t one-size-fits-all. We recognize that everyone's skin is different. With customized skincare, we can account for different skin types and target each individual's specific skin concerns. You wouldn't treat oily skin, dry skin, sensitive skin, or acne-prone skin with exactly the same formula! What really differentiates us is both our ability to offer customized formulas and our incorporation of prescription ingredients that aren't found off-the-shelf.
What are the key ingredients in your moisturizer?
The main ingredients in our
moisturizer are water and hyaluronic acid.
What are the benefits of these key ingredients?
Water and emollients work together to lock moisture into the skin without causing acne. So, your skin will feel soft and hydrated right after you apply the moisturizer, but there are long-term benefits too! Another one of its key ingredients is hyaluronic acid, which helps skin retain moisture and improve skin elasticity over time. Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the skin and the environment to increase the skin’s ability to hold water. Hyaluronic acid is especially good at delivering water into the skin and keeping it there!
Is this moisturizer for all skin types?
Yes, it is! Designed by our in-house dermatologists to be non-clogging and safe for sensitive skin, the Curology moisturizer is non-comedogenic, fragrance-free, dye-free, paraben-free, and hypoallergenic. It’s also vegan AND cruelty free! We were recently awarded Leaping Bunny certification.
Does this moisturizer help with anti-aging?
Using hyaluronic acid has shown a positive effect h6 the appearance of wrinkles and skin elasticity due to its moisture-binding properties, which help keep your skin plump and dewy. At what age should we address anti-aging?
The most important factor for keeping your skin healthy and looking young is being proactive with sun protection – and this should start from childhood! Because there’s a delay in terms of when sun exposure occurred and when its effects manifest, you won’t see the effects of sun exposure immediately.
Typically, your 30s and 40s are when signs of aging begin to become increasingly noticeable. The natural life cycle of skin begins to slow down, meaning the appearance of discoloration, wrinkles, sagging and reduction of collagen production takes place. Estrogen levels also decrease, and androgens then become more dominant, which can cause a resurgence of adult acne.
