Sheree Adams: Smart & Sassy Mom

Today’s mothers are redefining the rules of parenting and creating the lifestyles that work best for their families. There is no “one size fits all” formula and mom bloggers, like Sheree Adams, are showcasing online just how they do it all. With her blog, Smart & Sassy Mom, Sheree is “managing motherhood, marriage & mealtimes with style and grace.” In addition to blogging at her site, the busy wife and mom of three is also a registered nurse, a staff writer for Black and Married with Kids, 1/3 of Mamas Mashup, and a contributor to Hilton Hotels and Resorts’ Family Travel Blog, Hilton Mom Voyage.

Sheree took some time to answer a few questions for us about what she calls “purposeful parenting”, her simplified beauty routine, and the best piece of parenting advice she has ever received. Read on for more.

In 3-4 sentences tell us about yourself, your profession and your blog.
I'm a wife and mom of three - one son, and two daughters. I'm a registered nurse, in which my scope of practice now allows me to work from home. My blog is Smart & Sassy Mom, where my primary focus is purposeful parenting, but you'll also find helpful information about marriage, quick dinner ideas, travel, inspiration and more!

What inspired you to begin blogging at Smart & Sassy Mom and what keeps you excited about creating new content? Well, after my third child, I began to look at myself as an "expert" at this motherhood thing and wanted to share my nuggets of information without boring everybody. As a busy mom, I don't like to waste my time reading garbage, so I vowed that I would never write anything that I didn't want to read myself.

You have said that "purposeful parenting" is your contribution to society. Can you tell us more about what that means?
Yes...I'm very passionate about it. Besides just being a good parent, I really think that it's important to instill the highest quality of morals, values and ideal character traits in our kids from an early age. It's never too early for kids to learn about things like gratitude, self-awareness, spirituality, pride, drive and the ability to find beauty in everything - just to name a few.

Let’s talk beauty and fashion. What is your perfect red lipstick--the one you pull out for those special date nights with the hubby?
I have NEVER worn red lipstick before! I am more of a nude shade type of woman. I envy women who do wear it. I keep saying that I will find the perfect shade for me and just rock out...Stay tuned!

With three children, do you have time for a daily beauty routine or ritual? If so, what is it?
Yes, I only have time for a "simple face" most days. I've been blessed genetically with smooth skin, that's blemish-free for the most part. So, I moisturize, use concealer, a thin film of foundation, eyeliner and one of my favorite glosses. Sounds like a lot, but it takes no longer than 5 minutes. I've got it down to a science.

What 3 products are in your Ultimate Beauty Arsenal—those items you absolutely cannot live without—and why?
My moisturizer, my concealer and my nude lip gloss!

If you had 2 hours to pick out an outfit from head to toe, where would you shop and why?
Nordstrom is my favorite store - hands down. My mood/style changes from day to day. They NEVER fail me. They always have my size, their customer service is amazing and I love that they never hassle me when I change my mind.

What is the most valuable piece of parenting advice you’ve ever received?

"Listen to your children while they're young and they will talk to you as they grow into adulthood." EVERYTHING at every stage of their lives is important and a big deal to them, so I will listen to my kids, and take non-verbal cues from them, even when they can't find the words.

What is the best bit of blogging advice you've ever received?
Be authentic.

Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
I set 2 goals for myself in 2014. One was a half-marathon (which I did in April) and the other one was to finish writing my book. So, that's in the works. I'm also excited to be speaking at a blogging conference this summer along with some other pretty amazing women! I'm excited about summer, too, because it means more travel, more content and time with my family!
