CHANGE THE PLANET ONE BAR AT A TIME

If you’re interested in making a global contribution in helping the environment, it’s as simple as a bar of soap. Peet Bros. has taken a huge initiative and created an all-natural soap line without the traditional Palm Oil as its main ingredient. Read all about how this brand with a purpose is helping preserve the rainforests in Indonesia and Malaysia, which accounts for more that 80% of the world’s palm oil. You will be more than happy to try the Shea Butter Bar Soap in Coconut Vanilla in our December Box not only you will enjoy how amazing your skin will feel, you can help make a deference in our current climate crisis.
How did the brand get its start?
Peet Bros. started with a vacation in Thailand, when a family trip to the island of Koh Samui was stopped short because of massive amounts of black smoke in the air. After asking around, we learned that the smoke was a regular visitor to the area’s pristine beaches and vibrant cities, thanks to the burning of rainforests in nearby Indonesia and Malaysia to clear way for Palm Oil plantations. That kicked off a few months of intense research about the Palm Oil problem, and how it’s contributing to climate change, endangering dozens of vulnerable species, destroying native land, and emboldening countless labor and human rights violations. We were seriously upset to learn how common Palm Oil is in beauty products, personal care products, and the food on the shelves in our grocery store. We started looking for Palm Oil-free products, and couldn’t find any that were both free of this planet-harming ingredient and worked as well as we needed them to—so we decided to make our own. From the beginning, we were committed to being absolutely palm oil-free AND to using way more of the good stuff, those moisturizing ingredients that people expect when they buy a premium bar of soap or bottle of lotion. We believe you can feel the difference from the very first use.
What are the key ingredients in your soaps?
We have three separate lines of soaps and lotions: Shea Butter (bar soap and body lotion), Olive Oil (bar soaps only), and Hemp Oil (bar soap and body lotion). In each of those lines, the key moisturizing oil is always in the top three ingredients—because we think that if an ingredient is called out on the front of the label, it shouldn’t be buried in the ingredient list! Because of this, our products have up to 25 times more moisturizing ingredients than other brands, all without using Palm Oil, because of its devastating impact on our climate, our rainforests, and our planet's most vulnerable animals. Every product we make is creatively designed to give you the clean, moisturized feel you're after without any of the bad stuff.
What are the benefits of these ingredients?
All of our key ingredients were chosen for their moisturizing and skin-healing properties. Many of our fans have told us that they don’t need to use lotion after the shower because our soap doesn’t dry them out like the ones they’ve used before!
Talk to us about why you don’t use palm oil.
As one of the largest contributors to global deforestation, greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity loss, the Palm Oil industry has a devastating impact on our environment. This impact is most heavily felt in Indonesia and Malaysia, which produces more than 80% of the world’s palm oil. At the current rate of deforestation, all of Indonesia’s rainforests will be destroyed in less than 15 years. This destruction threatens the survival of so many endangered species—the Sumatran orangutan has seen its population cut in half in the past 10 years alone. That’s why we’re out to challenge the industry standard by eliminating all Palm Oil and Palm Oil-derived ingredients from our products. It may not be easy, but it’s the right thing to do. Why Shea Butter?
Known for its nourishing benefits and healing properties, Shea Butter is packed with vitamins and essential fats to give your skin what it needs to thrive in all seasons. Native to West Africa and great for all skin types, Shea Butter has been used for centuries to soothe, smooth, and protect skin. In fact, Shea Butter has been found to have anti-inflammatory properties, which may explain why so many people get relief from eczema, acne, and irritation caused by dry weather. There are a lot of brands out there using Shea Butter in their products, but when you take a closer look, you’ll see that Shea Butter is totally buried in their ingredient list! We think that’s doing this incredible ingredient a disservice, as folks would try one of those products, not feel any moisturizing results, and believe Shea wasn’t working for them. We knew we could make a better product by using WAY more Shea Butter and letting the moisturizing power of Shea really shine.
