How did AAVRANI get its start?
My parents immigrated from Kolkata to Detroit in 1986. They were born and raised in India, and I was born and raised in Michigan, so I grew up bouncing back and forth between cultures - too Indian or too American at any given point in time.
AAVRANI is my way to share the secrets of Indian beauty rituals with you. To combine the two parts that make me whole. But, it’s also my journey back to my roots; to re-discover and appreciate its intricacies. My vision is for all women who struggle with their dualities to embrace them instead. To celebrate their conflicted, immense, breathtakingly unique identities that make them who they are.
What did you do before you started AAVRANI?
I got my business degree, moved to New York and started a career in finance.
Was there one specific challenge that you faced as a startup and what did you do to conquer it?
Covid was especially challenging because it was an unprecedented situation so, what we did to navigate it was to completely pivot our business strategy and create something new that would work with the circumstances in the world.
When and how did you know it was time to leave your finance job and dive into AAVRANI?
I left my career in finance to pursue my MBA at Wharton. While I was there, I met my Co-Founder and started AAVRANI!
Is there a special meaning to the name AAVRANI?
Rani means queen in Hindi.
