In 3-5 sentences tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
I'm an award winning producer and Emmy nominated TV Host covering the entertainment and cultural landscape of NYC. I'm also the "kreator" of Kéla's Kloset, a fashion site hosting style for every day women. As cool as that all sounds I'm your average girly-girl next door who loves to travel the world, try new things, dine out and a to have a good ol' chat fest with my girls.
What drew you to blogging and what keeps you going?
A few things drew me to blogging, one of which was sharing my love of fashion and showing that it's not as difficult as some think. My site is a little over a year old and there are definitely times when you want to throw in the towel but ultimately it's fun for me. I'm blogging about something I'm genuinely interested in and passionate about. It's also been a great way for me to challenge my own style and further hone in on it.
What 3 products are in your Ultimate Beauty Arsenal?
Oooh, just 3!! Ok I gotta be strategic about this...
- Most definitely Stila long wear lip color in Fiery- that stuff is phenomenal and boosts every look.
- Something that keeps acne at bay, moisturizes, helps with blemishes and gives me a flawless finish on my skin. Oh and doesn't make my skin shiny and oily. Does that exist? I might be reaching for the moon but you did say "ultimate beauty arsenal"
- Lastly, a great contour powder
Do you have an every day skincare and beauty routine? If yes, please walk us through it.
I do have a routine. I wish it was more complex but it's fairly simple. I wash my face with Cetaphil (or Neutrogena Pink grapefruit wash if I used a cleansing wipe the night before). I apply any necessary prescription topical treatments and then moisturizer. I like to immediately apply my foundation after that while my skin is all dewy and moisturized. I think it helps makeup settle better into your skin and presents it from being matte and caked on. Afterwards I spray a facial mist to help everything settle. Then I apply a mix of 2-3 products (contour powder, blush, liner) to finish my look. The last steps include a setting powder and a coat of mascara. At the end of the day it will all come off with a cleansing wipe if I'm too lazy to wash it off.
We know you love to shop your “kloset”, but If you had one hour to shop a store and pick out an outfit from head to toe, where would you shop and why?
Hands down: Zara. Everything I could need is in that store from head to toe, literally. I love the aesthetic of the brand. It's so effortlessly chic and polished and filled with wardrobe staples to last you for years. Plus I can actually afford a thing or two out of there.
What is the one bit of advice you would give to anyone wanting to start a fashion blog?
Just go for it and provide consistent, quality content. My blog might still be in draft mode today if my friend didn't push me to go live. Everything won't be perfect at the beginning (if ever) and you won't know everything but you'll figure it out along the way. In doing so you want to make sure you are delivering quality consistent content. There is nothing more annoying than going to a site and seeing a 2-week or 3-month gap in posts. Don't be that blogger. Also learn everything you can about SEO (FYI that's search engine optimization). You'll thank me later.
What three items should be in every woman's closet and why?
-An LCD- Little Colored Dress. Everyone has an LBD but in the sea of all those black dresses you'll stand out with your colored one, and be all the more memorable.
- An amazing pair of heels. They make all of those frugal finds look a little more luxe
- An equally amazing and quality handbag because like those amazing heels, they will go for the long haul in your closet, and will fit even when that LCD doesn't.
What is the most rewarding aspect of blogging?
I love talking about fashion and style; it feels like I'm having one big chat with my readers, aka Kuties. What's most rewarding in those chats is inspiring people to try something new with their style. Fashion isn't rocket science, but for some it's overwhelming and stressful; and I love when someone leaves a comment or walks up to me and tells me they have been inspired by Kéla's Kloset. It's fashion, it's fun and it's great when we can all show up to the party looking good.
Is there anything else you would like to share with us?
