Georgia Ganjeh: The Marketing Maven Takes Us Under the Halo

As you may have seen in our Sneak Peek, the August Bonus COCOTIQUE Box gift is a Jackie O dress from Black Halo! We are excited to have had an opportunity to catch up with Georgia Ganjeh, Director of Marketing & PR at Black Halo. She has previously worked for such brands as Tadashi Shoji, Phat Farm and Thierry Mugler, in addition to having been principal of her own Marketing and Public Relations consulting firm. We asked the busy working mom to share her best career tips and advice, to talk about her signature style and to tell us about her daily beauty routine.

Walk us through a typical day as Director of Marketing & PR at Black Halo. What is your most favorite part of what you do?

Every day brings something different at Black Halo and that is what I love about my current position--and the brand. I oversee all marketing and public relations initiatives, which encompasses everything from social media, to photo shoots, events, celebs and editorial placements. It definitely always keeps me on my toes!

You’ve worked both with brands as in-house marketing and public relations, as well as worked for yourself as the principle of an agency. What are some of the pros and cons of each?

Well with in-house brands you definitely have the "machine" behind you to make your job easier and to make it work, but I also found it very rewarding when I was consulting for smaller brands, getting their names out there. Be it negotiating photo shoots and events, or gaining editorial and celeb coverage, I find that fostering and maintaining industry relationships is paramount to running your own business/agency.

What is the most valuable professional lesson you’ve learned over the years?

"Influence those that influence others." I learned that while working for Russell Simmons launching Baby Phat years ago - this advice still holds true today!

What advice would you give to someone hoping to either break into, or climb the corporate ladder in marketing with a well-known brand?

Be authentic and be loyal to those people that support you and your brand. It's key to building solid relationships in this business.

We hear a lot of talk about work/life balance among highly successful women—particularly those who are moms. Do you have any tips on how to juggle work responsibilities and mommy duties?

It’s definitely a challenge! I am still learning the balancing act every day, but having an employer that is supportive and understanding has been instrumental in my present state of work/life balance.

How would you describe your signature style?

I have a pretty classic style, never too trendy. I was never one for of-the-moment trends. I would rather invest in key signature pieces that can take me through several seasons.

How do you make time for fitness?

It’s a challenge because I really don't like working out. LOL! I have found, though, that outdoor activities suit me more than gym workouts - i.e. hiking, walking and playing sports outdoors.

Tell us about your daily beauty routine.

I keep it fairly simple as far as make-up is concerned, but I make sure to wash, moisturize, and wear SPF every single day. And lip gloss--I never leave the house without at least 3 glosses!

What 3 products are in your Ultimate Beauty Arsenal, and why?

La Mer Moisturizing Cream, Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Balm, and Laura Gellar Invisible Oil Blotting Powder - all three are life savers in their respective categories!
