When did you know you wanted to be a jewelry designer and found your own accessories company?
I come from a creative family and I've always loved creating. I have a background in Fashion Design and I've always loved how accessories can transform an outfit and show one's personality. After searching through vintage stores and boutiques trying to find fun, unique jewelry at an affordable price, I didn't find any, so I decided to create my own. Jewels Of June started as a hobby. Friends and co-workers started to show interest and requested orders. I registered the name even before what I knew it would become, so in 2013 - early 2014 Jewels of June was born
What were the first 3 steps you took towards making that dream a reality?
- I inspired myself, visualized my end goal, and organized my ideas--because everything begins with an idea.
Research: I read and educated myself on the things that I needed to learn. Assessed my strengths, weaknesses and resources, and prepared myself for everything.
Hard work: Self- motivation and hard work are a must--it is the only way.
that hard work does pay off and that the results may not be immediate but are absolutely worth it. I learned to be patient and kinder with myself when things did not go as planned. I learned to enjoy every aspect of the process, because it is the only way to grow, learn and become better. I also learned to accept what I cannot change and keep an overall positive attitude. I have always kept the end result in mind because it fuels my passion and drive.
What advice would you give to another woman who wants to pursue a career in design but is afraid to take the leap?
Go for it! By all means try--otherwise you will regret not taking the chance. If you have a gift, whatever it is, just try. Acknowledge that it will not be as easy as you may think but nothing worthwhile comes easily. So take a chance. Learn what needs to be learned and take advantage of any and all the opportunities presented to you; create opportunities for yourself by becoming an asset.
What is your favorite way to accessorize? For example, do you love to pile on and layer pieces, or do you take a simpler approach?
It varies from day to day and on the occasion. I love mixing vintage pieces with my jewelry, and to layer pieces. However, this summer I have been wearing dainty jewelry and keeping it very simple.
What jewelry trends are your favorites for summer?
I am loving the midi rings, septum rings, hand chains, cuff necklaces, stackable rings and big bold statement pieces with intricate details.
